Just one look at the chapter headings & you know you are in for a ride with this volume from Mr Wenskus & Donnelly.
Well, the text is well-written & tight but there is also richness to it that you find in good fantasy literature. The dialogue is punchy & impressive - reminding me of Terry Pratchett.
I don't want to give too much away in terms of the plot as I think this book is best approached as I did, with no firm idea of what's going to happen. This volume is not conventional & it doesn't fit neatly into a category.
What I will say is that there is major trouble about in the countryside, some really, really happenings & creatures, plus a champion who really doesn't seem to fit the description.
It's weird, wonderful, there's stacks of humour as well as real suspense and drama.
I wanted a change & I sure got it. I look forward to the next volume which I know is planned. For now, Mr Wenskus & Mr Donnelly - stop playing with my reality - at least for while!! |
